It’s not unreasonable, at this time of year, to expect rain but we often still get caught out by it! I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve gone down to London for meetings only to find that, whilst fair in Yorkshire it’s raining ‘cats and dogs’ in London. Usually this has meant I’ve then had to dash to Boots at Kings Cross station to buy an ’emergency brolly’. I’ve now got loads of emergency brollies! Better that than turn up to a meeting looking like a drowned rat!
So, what to wear? I have a selection of rain macs and jackets that I use depending on what mood I’m in, where I’m going and what I’m doing and, of course, I have an abundance of brollies, but I do have one or two special brollies.
Some of the best places I’ve found for wellington boots are Hunter and Joules. Hunter is a truly iconic British heritage brand and they are rightly renowned for their fantastic wellies.
Joules, though, has long been making quirky patterned wellies for women, men and kids and we’ve gone through a fair few pairs of the kids’ wellies over the years. I have my own pair of floral wellies from Joules which I absolutely love and are indispensable at this time when you’re stood on the sidelines of a muddy football pitch on a Saturday morning in rain/sleet/snow (delete as appropriate!).
Joules wellies are ace! Find similar here.
Joules also make great rain jackets. I’ve had a couple from them, but particularly like this pink one. I don’t normally wear pink, but I really liked this shade. It’s easy to fold up and put in a bag – for those times when you might be taken by surprise by a rain-shower.
Seasalt also does some great rain macs in many great colours bright enough to lighten up the dullest, wettest day.
The gorgeous Sea Folly jacket from Seasalt comes in many bright colours
I’ve got something similar, but a bit cheaper from Tu at Sainsburys. It’s a great bright yellow colour and really brightens up everything.
And, of course, Boden have been doing different variations on their Rainy Day Mac for years successfully. I bought this patriotic version a year or so ago and it always gets compliments (apart from my mother who really doesn’t like it for some reason!).

So finally, one of my many brollies, although this wasn’t bought in an emergency, but on a work trip to Helsinki. I have always loved the Unikko print from Finnish design house Marimekko, so this brolly was a must!
So, come on then rain! Bring it on! I’m ready for you….. just hang fire whilst I pop into Boots to buy another emergency umbrella!!

Great! I could do with one of them today as its super soggy and rainy! Have a lovely weekend. Gemma xx http://www.jacquardflower.uk
